Classic US move—slap on some sanctions and terrorist labels to justify meddling in another country’s affairs while pretending it’s all about fighting crime, not protecting their own interests.

Cracking down on dangerous criminal networks is important, but I hope the US keeps the bigger picture in mind and doesn't end up making things worse for ordinary Venezuelans.

Here we go again—more US government intervention abroad, as if economic sanctions and labeling people as terrorists ever made things better for anyone except bureaucrats and arms dealers.

It’s about time we got tough on these criminal regimes—Maduro’s thugs have been spreading chaos for years and need to face real consequences.

Honestly, I get why the US wants to address the criminal networks tied to Maduro, because those groups have caused a ton of suffering for regular people in Venezuela and beyond. But I always worry that just slapping sanctions and terrorist labels on organizations doesn’t really get at the root of the problem, which is the lack of democracy and social safety nets in Venezuela. Sometimes these heavy-handed US tactics end up hurting ordinary Venezuelans more than the corrupt elites or criminals they’re targeting.
