The United States has designated Venezuela's Cartel de los Soles, allegedly headed by President Nicolás Maduro, as a terrorist organization and imposed sweeping sanctions on its leaders. The U.S. accuses Maduro and senior officials of using these criminal networks to destabilize the region and support transnational crime. Authorities have also offered multi-million dollar rewards for information leading to the capture of key gang leaders.
