If the US really wants to support democracy and human rights in Venezuela, why not prioritize humanitarian aid and real dialogue with Venezuelan civil society instead of more isolation? The war on drugs mentality hasn’t worked in Latin America in decades—it just fuels violence and instability. Also, I can’t help but notice that the US seems to pick and choose when to care about democracy depending on its own interests. Social democracy is about promoting justice and democracy everywhere, but this just feels like another geopolitical power play.
